About Veterans Law Center
VLC is a nonprofit organization that helps low-income veterans obtain their VA benefits and/or military discharge upgrades. In some cases, we offer veterans the kind of in-depth, case-specific tips, advice, and information they need to achieve their goals on their own. In others, we provide full legal representation before the VA or discharge review boards. From the moment we first connect, we meet veterans wherever they are, and we put our minds towards helping them obtain their VA benefits or get their rightful discharges.
Our Mission
Our mission is to work in partnership with underserved veterans while providing high-quality and compassionate legal representation to secure housing stability and the benefits they earned through their service.
Our Core Values
Client-Centered Representation:
- We believe every veteran is unique and deserves to be heard.
- We believe in listening attentively and without judgment.
- We believe that the nature and course of our representation must be informed by our clients’ direct experiences and traumas.
- We believe we have a continuing obligation to learn about and embrace cross-cultural differences out of respect for the diversity of the veteran population.
- We believe in empowering veterans with information about the law, their rights, and the means for securing them.
- We believe that veterans with severe mental illness should be equally and openly trusted, supported, honored, and celebrated for their contributions.
- We believe in being generous with our time and responsive to our clients’ needs.
- We believe in building open, trusting, and meaningful relationships with our clients.
- We believe that our clients’ trust must be earned.
Organizational Integrity:
- We strive to maintain a person-centered workplace by recognizing that the overall wellbeing of our team is essential to our success.
- We strive to create a trusting environment that encourages openness and allows for vulnerability.
- We strive to provide communication and feedback that inspires confidence and maximizes potential.
- We strive to implement growth-oriented systems, procedures, and policies.
- We strive to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion so our organization reflects and respects the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our clients and team.

By adhering to these values, VLC aims to give voice to our veteran clients’ stories, improve their overall quality of life, and restore their faith in the institutions and individuals entrusted with their care.
Military discharge upgrades and VA benefits Legal Team
Meet the team
Our staff has over 30 years of combined experience advocating for veterans before the VA and discharge review boards. We’ve been recognized locally and nationally for our work, and we’ve trained more attorneys on veterans law than we can count. We are four individuals deeply committed to helping veterans, but we are a unified team with a singular and distinctive approach. We are present for our clients, and we use this personal connection to tell our veterans’ stories, to make sure that the VA and discharge review boards see and hear them.
